JOINT COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS debate -
Tuesday, 30 May 2006

Business of Joint Committee.

I have been informed by the committee secretariat that Deputy Costello will replace Deputy Quinn on the committee.

That is good news. I may be obliged to leave because I have some work to do in regard to Michael Davitt's anniversary.

I remind members to ensure that their mobile telephones are switched off for the duration of the meeting because they cause interference to the recording equipment in committee rooms. Members and visitors will be aware that our proceedings are recorded.

Before we commence proceedings, the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs would like to record its deepest sympathies to those who lost their lives or were injured in last Saturday's earthquake on the island of Java. Irish Aid has pledged an initial sum of €500,000 and is monitoring the situation and is ready to assist further, if required.

The minutes of the meeting of 9 May have been circulated. Are they agreed? Agreed.
