JOINT COMMITTEE ON JUSTICE, EQUALITY, DEFENCE AND WOMEN’S RIGHTS debate -
Tuesday, 9 Nov 2004

Election of Vice-Chairman.

Before we begin the hearings, we must formally appoint the new Vice-Chairman of the committee. Deputy Paul McGrath has been the Vice-Chairman of the committee since the start of this Dáil. However, pursuant to a motion of the Dáil, Deputy Paul McGrath has ceased to be a member of the committee and has been replaced by Deputy Murphy. I thank Deputy Paul McGrath for his dedication and hard work on the committee and his invariable good humour, sensitive approach and calmness of demeanour in dealing with many complex and demanding issues as Vice-Chairman of the committee.

I now call for nominations for the position of Vice-Chairman of the joint committee.

I nominate Deputy Murphy for the position.

As there are no other nominations, I deem Deputy Murphy to be elected Vice-Chairman of the committee.

Sitting suspended at 9.38 a.m. and resumed at 9.40 a.m.
