SECTION 22.

Question proposed: "That section 22 stand part of the Bill."

This section deals with the admission by a person on examination that he owes debts to the bankrupt or posseses property belonging to him. It provides for the payment or delivery of money or property to the Official Assignee by that person. It is based in part on existing law but it is wider in scope following the recommendation of the committee that the provision should cover not only indebtedness to the bankrupt but also possession of property belonging to him.

Would "person" there include a company? Say we were dealing with a company, can the Minister assure us that if it was a company that was indebted to the bankrupt that that is covered by "person" and that any company property could be made amenable in the same way?

Offhand, I think the answer is "yes". It is something worth looking at and checking. I will do that.

Question put and agreed to.
