SECTION 68.

Question proposed: "That section 68 stand part of the Bill.

This is a new section which provides for the inspection by the Official Assignee of any goods of a bankrupt held by any person by way of pledge, pawn or other security so that he may have a reasonable opportunity of exercising his right of redemption if he thinks fit to do so. A similar provision is found in many bankruptcy laws. The committee considered that while in general holders of property belonging to a bankrupt do not create difficulties for the Official Assignee when he signifies his intention of having it inspected, there were exceptions and accordingly he should be given a statutory right to inspect.

Question put and agreed to.
