Vol. 1 No. 5

LOCAL ELECTIONS POSTPONEMENT BILL.

May I move that Bill, and in so doing may I explain to the Seanad that if we do not pass this Bill, which postpones local elections until 1924, these elections must be held forthwith, and I think we are all aware that certain difficulties with regard to the registration and widening of the Schedules and matters of that kind exist and in the circumstances we had better pass this Bill.

I desire to second that. I think it a just and proper course until the widening of the Franchise is effected that the elections should be postponed. and that is the reason why I second it.

Does this apply to the Dublin Port and Docks Board, which is elected under an entirely different franchise.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

It is confined to elections for Borough and Urban Councils and Town Commissioners, and apparently does not touch the board mentioned.

Question: "That the Seanad do adopt the ‘Local Elections Postponement Bill' and that it be deemed to have passed through all its stages," put and agreed to.
