Vol. 1 No. 34

ACCOMMODATION FOR OIREACHTAS.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

The Seanad will recollect that at the request of the Dáil, and in conjunction with them, a committee of ten was appointed to consider the question of sites either temporary or permanent, for the accommodation of the Oireachtas in the future. It was an instruction, so far as the Dáil was concerned, to the Committee that their report should be in by the 27th of this month. That instruction, though not contained in the reference made by the Seanad to their delegates to the Committee, bound, of course, the Committee of the Dáil, and the result was that they were unable within the time to come to any conclusion of a definite character either as to a permanent home or a temporary home for the Oireachtas. These proceedings, therefore, were practically abortive. The Dáil to-day passed the following resolution, which has been communicated to me, and which I will read to the Seanad:—"That the joint Committee on Accommodation be requested to continue its deliberations with a view to making recommendations by Friday. August 3rd, as to the temporary accommodation of the Oireachtas, a quorum to be 7 members of the Committee, with which the concurrence of Seanad Eireann is desired." If it is the will of the Seanad that the Committee they already appointed shall continue their deliberations jointly with this Committee of the Dáil I shall so inform the Dáil.

Agreed.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

Of course the Seanad understands that it is only to be continued for the purpose of coming to a conclusion, if it can, on the question of temporary accommodation.

I beg to move the adjournment of the Seanad until Monday at 12 o'clock.

The Seanad adjourned at 7.45 p.m. until Monday, 30th July, at noon.
