PRIVATE BILL PROCEDURE. - THE ADJOURNMENT.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

With regard to the next meeting of the Seanad, from special enquiries I have made, it is quite plain that there will be no Bills ready for us by this day week. But I think, speaking without prejudice—it is not to be brought up against me if I am a false prophet— the Judiciary Bill will be ready for this House by this day fortnight. I would very much like if in the meantime members of the Seanad, who take an interest in it, would make application to the proper place and obtain copies of the Judiciary Committee's Report. I lay special emphasis upon that, because, so far as I understand from the Bill—I have not seen it in its present shape—while it has practically adopted the recommendations of the Committee in regard to the formation and composition of the various Courts, it contains no provision to carry out the recommendations further as to the re-organisation of the staffs of the Courts, or to cheapen and expedite the business of the Courts themselves; and I would be very anxious if members of the Seanad would obtain copies of the Report and direct their attention to this portion of it. Would some Senator move the adjournment without mentioning any particular day, leaving that to me? Something might turn up that might make it necessary to call the Seanad together by this day week.

I move that the Seanad do now adjourn.

I beg to second the motion.

Question put and agreed to.
The Seanad adjourned at 5.5 p.m.
