Vol. 3 No. 2

SEANAD IN COMMITTEE. - RAILWAY AND CANAL (COMPENSATION) COMMISSION ORDER, 1924.

I beg to move:

"That the Seanad approves of the Railway and Canal (Compensation) Commission Order, 1924, made on the twenty-third day of April, 1924, by the Executive Council, under Section 7 of the Adaptation of Enactments Act, 1922 (No. 2 of 1922), and laid before the Seanad on the seventh day of May, 1924."

This motion was put down in my name in my official capacity. The Minister for Agriculture will explain it.

Before the Minister explains it, it is well to understand that we have got no copies of this Order. I think there was some reference to it in preliminary Orders of the Day sent out. If so, I did not get a copy of it. According to the Order Paper, it was only laid on the Table of the Seanad to-day. If that is so, I think the motion should be postponed until we have an opportunity of looking at the Order. I do not suppose that there is anything urgent about it.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

I see that it was only laid on the Table to-day, and unless there is something really urgent it might be postponed.

There is nothing urgent about it.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

Will it suit the Minister's convenience if the motion is left over until the next day the Seanad meets?

Mr. HOGAN

Yes.

Perhaps I ought to say that the motion was put down in my name in my official capacity. It seems to me it was only a precautionary measure to move the motion at all, as unless the Seanad annuls the Order it takes effect. There can really be no urgency.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

In the absence of any motion the Order stands.

That is so. I have looked the matter up.

Consideration of motion postponed.
