Vol. 4 No. 6

SEANAD IN COMMITTEE. - ADJOURNMENT OF THE SEANAD.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

Before the House rises I would like to remind Senators that on Wednesday we will resume the discussion on this Bill in Committee, but the first business will be the Report Stage of the Livestock Breeding Bill, and if any Senators have amendments to bring in I hope they will be good enough to have them sent in in time to have them circulated for Wednesday. There is another matter to which I desire to refer. We had an interesting discussion yesterday and today upon the question of the sources from which the funds for the maintenance of these roads in the future are to be derived. The matter is still in a state of great obscurity and I suggest that it would be very desirable, without having any resolution on the subject, if Senator Sir John Keane, in conjunction with Senators Brown, Kenny and O'Farrell would take the trouble to look into the matter before Wednesday as a sort of consultative committee. Senator Brown has expressed his willingness to do so.

I would be obliged if you mentioned the name of somebody else instead of mine as I am afraid I cannot be here.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

Then perhaps Senators Brown, Sir John Keane and Kenny might kindly undertake to look into the matter.

I shall be engaged on this matter on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

You are a fund of information on this matter, and you will be able to let the others know in a few minutes how it stands.

Yes, but not until Wednesday at one o'clock.

What has become of Senator Sir John Keane's statement about finance? It was adjourned two or three days ago.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

His statement has been published in our debates and I arranged that on a date that would suit the convenience of the Minister for Finance he would attend here and answer that statement if he so desired.

I do not think that it will ever be his convenience to do so. He ran away at the first shot on the last occasion.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

I do not think that he is the sort of man who would run away from anything.

Indeed!

The Seanad adjourned at 4.10 p.m. until Wednesday, 4th February, at 3 p.m.
