Vol. 5 No. 1

PUBLIC BUSINESS. - TRIENNIAL ELECTION OF SENATORS.

I think it would meet with general approval if the motion handed in in the name of Senator Brown were taken now. It suggests that the Nomination Committee should send forward names of Senators to consider the position with regard to the triennial election of Senators. If that is agreed to now, the matter can be taken next week, but otherwise there will be a delay.

I propose: "That a special Committee be appointed to examine and report upon the position of the Seanad as regards the first triennial election thereto to be held pursuant to Article 32 of the Constitution. The Committee to consist of seven members to be chosen by the Committee of Selection; four to form a quorum, and at least three to be members who will vacate their seats on the 10th December next."

I second the motion.

Motion put and agreed to.
The Seanad adjourned at 7.30 p.m.
