LIFFEY HYDRO-ELECTRIC SCHEME. - DOCUMENTS TO BE LAID ON THE TABLE.

I desire to say with reference to Senator Sir John Keane's motion to annual the Public Bodies Order, 1925, that one would expect that copies of it would be available for any Senator who wished to look at it. I tried to get a copy of the Order here, and was told I would have to go to the Library. I went down to the Library, and the gentleman who gave me a copy of the Order wanted me to sign a paper. I did not want the Order to take it away, and if Senator Sir John Keane's oration had been a little longer I would have arrived back in time to answer him. I suggest that for the future it would be a good thing when important motions of this sort come before the Seanad that a copy of the Order should be in the House. This was a very important matter, so important that the debate had to be postponed. I hope that you will see, sir, that there is a copy of the Order in the Seanad on the next occasion.

CATHAOIRLEACH

I am glad Senator the Earl of Mayo called my attention to this. It is essential that several copies, at least, of an Order of this kind, on which there is going to be a debate, should be available for Senators who wish to read it. It is not at all a simple matter to follow a discussion of this kind unless Senators have the actual text of the Order in front of them. I shall take measures to provide that Orders of this kind which are to form the subject matter of a discussion shall be laid on the Table of the House for the use of Senators.
