Vol. 8 No. 9

DEATH OF SENATOR MARTIN FITZGERALD.

CATHAOIRLEACH

I regret to have to announce to the Seanad that I have received an intimation of the death of one of our colleagues this morning—Senator Martin Fitzgerald. That, of course, creates a vacancy, and under our Standing Orders it would be necessary either to-day or to-morrow for the Seanad to arrange for a date for the election of a person to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator Martin Fitzgerald. I will not ask the House to do that just now. We will have an opportunity either to-day or to-morrow to consider the date on which we would like the election to be held.

In connection with the death of Senator Martin Fitzgerald, I beg to move that the House do place on record an expression of its regret on the death of Senator Martin Fitzgerald.

I beg to second that.

Motion was passed in silence, all the Senators standing.
