Vol. 8 No. 25

DUBLIN PORT AND DOCKS (BRIDGE) BILL, 1927. - ADJOURNMENT.

CATHAOIRLEACH

Up to the present about sixty amendments have been handed in to the Electricity Bill, and I have no reason to anticipate that that is the conclusion of them. If we take the Committee Stage of the Bill on to-morrow and Thursday I am hoping that we will be able to complete it by Friday. That would dispose of the Committee Stage of the Electricity Bill and we would take the Report on Wednesday or Thursday of the following week. In view of the amount of business that we have at present pending in this House and the number of Bills that are yet to make their way to this House as far as I can see we shall be able to dispose of them by the end of next week. That is provided always that we will not be called upon to deal with the Currency Bill. If we are asked to deal with the Currency Bill which we probably shall not have until next week I do not see how we can possibly get through that within the time. It is a very important Bill which would, I think, call for a good deal of discussion. I do not know what the intentions of the Government may be but I think it is quite possible that they cannot be deliberately anxious to have that Bill disposed of before the Recess. I am not suggestion that we should get any view from the Minister upon it, but I have written to-day to the President asking for information of the subject and I will be able to inform the House to-morrow how the position stands.

The Seanad adjourned at 4.20 p.m. until Wednesday, 11th May, at 3 o'clock.
