Vol. 10 No. 9

PUBLIC BUSINESS. - GREAT SOUTHERN RAILWAYS (MISCELLANEOUS PURPOSES) BILL, 1928.

CATHAOIRLEACH

Senator Dowdall stated that he wanted to ask a question on the Adjournment in connection with this Bill.

The first item on the Orders of the Day is the Great Southern Railways (Miscellaneous Purposes) Bill, under which the Great Southern Railways Company ask for authority to acquire certain lands in the Counties of Clare and Roscommon; to cease to work that portion of their undertaking formerly known as the Cork City Railway, and to remove the bridges across the River Lee in the County Borough of Cork; to rebuild as a fixed bridge Crescent Bridge in the Borough of Wexford, and to confer certain miscellaneous powers on the company. I desire to be helpful in this matter, although I have objected to the Bill. If the promoters of this Bill would consent to deal only with the first and last of the items I would remove my objections, and possibly before we meet again, seeing that there are negotiations being carried on with regard to the removal of the bridges in Cork, the promoters may agree to that. If so, I will remove my objections to the Bill.

CATHAOIRLEACH

That is a matter we cannot dispose of now. I am sure the promoters will hear of this suggestion of yours. Whether they adopt it or not will be known at our next meeting.

The Seanad adjourned at 5 o'clock.
