Vol. 14 No. 18

Civic Guard (Acquisition of Premises) (Amendment) Bill, 1931—Committee.

Section 1 agreed to.
Question proposed:—"That Section 2 stand part of the Bill."

I think that the time has arrived when compulsory powers for the acquisition of premises for barracks for the Gárda Síochána should come to an end. There seems to be very little difficulty in acquiring property in any town or village for the purpose of building a Gárda barrack. It seems to me, from my experience of the country, that these compulsory powers are unnecessary. Compulsory powers ought not to be availed of in cases in which they are not necessary. This Bill is to be continued for another year but I hope we shall not find it on the Order Paper again next year.

Question put and agreed to.
Title agreed to.
The Seanad went out of Committee.
Bill reported without amendment.
Fourth Stage fixed for Wednesday, 20th May.
