Senator Colonel Moore has informed me that he would like to obtain the permission of the House to make a personal explanation regarding a matter which took place here recently. Is the House agreeable to grant permission?
Permission granted.
I have been reading the report of what took place when the Legitimacy Bill was last before the House. I had put down some amendments to that Bill, but I was obliged to go on urgent business to the country and, therefore, could not be present. I was extremely anxious that these amendments should be pressed, and I would have been here myself if I possibly could. However, I left, as I thought, discretion with others to bring the amendments forward. I suppose there was a misunderstanding about that, because they did not do so. I was confident that the matter would proceed in my absence as well as if I was present.
As I was in charge of the Bill I desire to say——
We cannot have any further explanations.
