Vol. 14 No. 32

Office of Leas-Chathaoirleach.

Cathaoirleach

It will be necessary, in accordance with sub-section (1) of Section 2 of the Seanad Bye-Elections Act, 1930, for an order to be made directing the Clerk to inform the Minister for Local Government and Public Health of the vacancy in the Seanad caused by the death of Senator Hooper, in order to cause such vacancy to be filled.

Ordered accordingly.

Cathaoirleach

It is also necessary, under Standing Order No. 10, for an order to be made fixing a date for the election to fill the vacancy in the office of Leas-Chathaoirleach. In view of the fact that the current triennial period is nearly at an end, I take it that there will be general agreement among Senators that this vacancy should not be filled. Accordingly, I suggest to the House that they should make an order fixing Wednesday, 9th December. In this way, the Standing Order will be fulfilled, but the vacancy will not in fact be filled until the beginning of the new triennial period.

Ordered accordingly.
