Vol. 15 No. 1

Election of Leas-Chathaoirleach—Date Fixed.

Cathaoirleach

The next business on the Order Paper is to fix a date for the election of a Leas-Chathaoirleach. As Senators know, it is necessary under our Standing Orders to give in the case of persons nominated for that office the usual five days' notice of motion. If the election is fixed for Wednesday, then the nominations must be in the Clerk's office by 4 p.m. on the previous Friday. Senators can fix whatever date they think is best. I leave it to the discretion of Senators to move that a date be fixed for the election of a Leas-Chathaoirleach.

I beg to move that the election of a Leas-Chathaoirleach take place at the first meeting of the Seanad held in January, 1932. That will give plenty of time for the nomination of candidates.

I second.

Question put and agreed to.
