Vol. 17 No. 2

Dublin Local Acts (Annulment) Order, 1933—Motion.

I move:—

That the Order made by the Minister for Local Government and Public Health under Section 103 of the Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1930, entitled the Dublin Local Acts (Annulment) Order, 1933, which was presented to Seanad Eireann on the 10th day of May, 1933, be approved.

The object of this motion is to give legislative effect to the order of the Minister for Local Government and Public Health; to annual certain legislation which has become redundant. The constitution of the extended city, under the Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1930, includes in its administration the suburbs of Pembroke, Rathmines and Rathgar, which was carried on partly under statutes of general application and partly under special Acts. These powers are in fact now available to the Dublin Corporation under Acts formerly applicable to the old city, but which are now applicable to the extended city. Consequently the need for keeping in statutory force the local Acts has now passed. The Dublin Corporation have powers under the Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1930, to extend the Acts that applied to the old city. There is really no need at all for these local Acts now. I am informed by the Minister that a careful examination of the question has been made by experts of the Corporation and of his Department.

I second. I looked up the Order, and, as far as I can see, it deals mainly with drainage and sanitary works so that there is no reason for objecting to the motion.

Question put and agreed to.
