Vol. 19 No. 17

Public Business. - Local Government (Extension of Franchise) Bill, 1935—Second Stage.

Question proposed: "That the Bill be now read a Second Time."

This Bill was sent to Seanad Eireann on the 28th June, 1933, and rejected. Article 38A of the Constitution declares that in such circumstances the Bill may be sent again to Seanad Eireann within one year after 28th December, 1934, the day on which the constitutional period of delay expired. This Bill has now been sent to this House for the Second Time by Dáil Eireann under Article 38A and if it is not passed by this House within 60 days of its being sent up for the second time, Dáil Eireann may resolve that the Bill be deemed to have been passed by both Houses of the Oireachtas. The case for the Bill has already been stated more than once in this House.
