Vol. 23 No. 12

Public Business. - Signature to Public Hospitals (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 1939—Motion.

I move:—

That, pursuant to sub-section (2) of Section 2 of Article 25 of the Constitution, Seanad Eireann concurs to the earlier signature by the President of the Public Hospitals (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 1939.

I desire to second the motion. We recognise the urgency of raising funds for Red Cross purposes and also the urgency of keeping in employment, to the greatest possible extent, persons now in employment of the Hospitals Trust. We have no desire to stand in the way of the Bill becoming law, but if I might make one very brief reference to what the Minister stated, I would suggest that, perhaps next June, if it comes to be his responsibility, or the responsibility of his colleagues, to appoint a Red Cross committee they might recollect that there are distinguished graduates of the National University in medicine who have not publicly declared themselves in favour of the Fianna Fáil policy.

They will all be Fianna Fáil supporters by that time.

On the contrary.

I suppose I am not expected to answer that.

Motion put and agreed to.
