Vol. 24 No. 27

National School Teachers Superannuation (Amendment) (No. 2) Scheme, 1940—Motion.

I wish formally to move the motion standing in my name:—

That the National School Teachers Superannuation (Amendment) (No. 2) Scheme, 1940, made by the Minister for Education with the consent of the Minister for Finance under the Teachers Superannuation Act, 1928 (No. 32 of 1928) be confirmed.

I regret to have to come before the Seanad again with reference to this matter. Through a mistake on my own part, I had not adverted to the fact that the scheme, as presented to both Houses of the Oireachtas, envisaged that it should come into operation on the 31st October, 1940. Although the Dáil had the matter under consideration, it adjourned until the 6th November without, in fact, having passed the appropriate resolution. I was under the impression that the resolution was passed by the Dáil when I was last before the Seanad, and I now wish to ask the Seanad to be good enough to let me have the new scheme, which is exactly the same as the one which was before the House on the former occasion except that the date has had to be altered from the 31st October to the 30th November, so that the motion would be passed by both Houses before the date set down for its coming into operation.

Will this have to go back to the Dáil?

No, it has already passed through the Dáil.

Motion agreed to.
