Vol. 34 No. 4

Comptroller and Auditor-General (Amendment) Bill, 1947—( Certified Money Bill )—Second and Subsequent Stages.

Question proposed: "That the Bill be now read a Second Time."

The salary of the Comptroller and Auditor-General is governed by the Comptroller and Auditor-General Act, 1923. Sub-section (1) of Section 2 of the Act provides for the payment to him of a salary of £1,500, inclusive, per annum. The purpose of the present Bill is to provide for an increase of 25 per cent. in that salary with effect as from the 1st April last. The increase proposed, which will bring the salary of the Comptroller and Auditor-General to £1,875 per year, is in keeping with the increase granted generally to public servants with comparable salaries.

Question put and agreed to.
Agreed to take remaining stages now.
Bill put through Committee without amendment, received for final consideration and ordered to be returned to the Dáil.
