Death of Apostolic Nuncio—Expression of Sympathy.

As this is our first meeting since the death of the late Apostolic Nuncio, Most Rev. Dr. Paschal Robinson, I am asking you, Sir, to convey to His Holiness, on behalf of this House of the Oireachtas, an expression of our deep sympathy. The late Nuncio was a man of great learning, with a wide experience of men and affairs. He had a keen intellect and a sympathetic understanding of the history and problems of this country. Those who sought his advice or assistance found him charitable and easy of approach. I am sure it is the wish of all the members of Seanad Éireann that we should be associated with the message of sympathy which has already been conveyed to His Holiness by the President, the Government and the other House.

Members rose in their seats.
