Vol. 40 No. 11

Royal Hospital for Incurables, Dublin (Charter Amendment) Bill, 1952—Second Stage.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

I move that the Bill be now read a Second Time.

I object. I would like to say a word or two on this Bill. The only change we are asked to make——

We may not have a discussion now on the Bill. Is the Senator opposing the Second Reading?

Yes, I am.

Then I think it would be better to postpone consideration of it.

May I not give my reasons?

Under Standing Orders, if the Second Reading of the Bill is objected to we must delay consideration.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

It will be considered at the next sitting of the Seanad, whenever that will be—not earlier than a fortnight.

I think I should be allowed to explain the position. It is not really a question of opposing; I want clarification.

Under Standing Orders we must, in the circumstances, defer consideration of the Bill, and the Leas-Chathaoirleach has proposed that it will be taken in a fortnight's time.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

Not earlier than a fortnight.

Second Stage postponed.
