Vol. 43 No. 6

Wexford Gas Order, 1954—Motion of Approval.

I move:—

That the Wexford Gas Order, 1954, proposed to be made by the Minister for Industry and Commerce and laid in draft before Seanad Eireann on the 29th day of January, 1954, under sub-section (4) of Section 10 of the Gas Regulation Act, 1920, be approved.

This Gas Order will give the Seanad no trouble. Orders made under the Act of 1920 have to be confirmed by resolution and the Wexford Gas Company sought and obtained an Order under that Act, the primary purpose of which is to empower the company to secure additional capital for the reconstruction and modernisation of its plant and equipment. The Order authorises an increase in the share capital of the undertaking from £20,000 to £40,000 and raises the company's borrowing powers from £10,000 to £20,000. The Order also authorises the company to purchase, or take on lease, houses, cottages or other buildings for use as offices or housing accommodation for their employees. Notice of the intention to make the Order was published and no objection was received from anybody.

Why has the Wexford Gas Company to come to the Legislature in this matter?

Because it operates under a special Act, a Private Act.

Question put and agreed to.
