Seanad Éireann debate -
Thursday, 22 Mar 1956

Vol. 45 No. 18

Business of Seanad.

I think it was agreed earlier to-day that, on this Bill, the Tánaiste should be allowed to rise to reply at nine o'clock. I am afraid the debate on the other Bill has made that rather unrealistic and I wonder if the House would agree that we should sit not later than 11 o'clock, on the basis of the Tánaiste getting in at 10.30 p.m. to conclude. I think the Bill needs to become law this week.

I think that arrangement could be carried out. I do not think there will be many speakers on this side of the House. I do not know how many there are on the other side, but I think we should do our best to carry that arrangement into effect.

May I take it that, if we get through the business earlier, we will then proceed to the discussion of the motion standing in my name?

That is another question.

I am afraid the Senator is too optimistic and I do not think that the Minister has been warned.

I should like to be clear about this. If this debate folds up by any chance, are we permitted to go on until 11 o'clock?

No. The arrangement is to sit not later than 11 p.m.
