Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 10 Feb 1965

Vol. 58 No. 8

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take No. 1 on the Order Paper. It is proposed to sit tomorrow at 3 o'clock and, if necessary, to sit on Friday in the hope of finishing Committee Stage. We hope the House will find it possible to assist us in this matter.

May I inquire what is the urgency to finish Committee Stage? Why cannot we sit in the proper fashion to ensure that every section is adequately considered?

No one is trying to hurry the Seanad. I should like to remind the Senator that financial business will be coming to us at the end of this month and the beginning of next month. It would be desirable, if we could, to finish our discussions on the Land Bill before that. However, if the Seanad wants to continue discussing Committee Stage next week and the week after, we have no objection. I made the suggestion because I thought it might suit the convenience of Senators if we could finish Committee Stage on Friday.
