Vol. 63 No. 8

Agriculture (Amendment) Bill, 1967: Committee and Final Stages.

Question proposed: "That section 1 stand part of the Bill".

This is the repealing section and repeals the more attractive or better part of the 1964 Act. I can assure the House that in counties such as Laois and other counties, where Fine Gael have a council majority, we intend implementing—if not in law— the spirit of the 1964 Act by ensuring that the widely representative voluntary farmers' organisations will not be left without direct representation on those important county committees of agriculture. This is something which would be of tremendous benefit to the agricultural industry in general.

Question put and agreed to.
Section 2 agreed to.
Title agreed to.
Bill reported without amendment, received for final consideration and passed.
