Vol. 66 No. 13

Post Office (Amendment) Bill, 1969— Committee and Final Stages.

Bill put through Committee, reported without amendment and received for final consideration.
Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass."

I notice from the Title to the Bill that the power which we are giving to the Minister is not limited to the provisions of postal facilities for blind persons. It appears that it may be possible at a later stage for the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs to apply to the Minister for Finance for permission to give facilities to other classes in the community. I would suggest that the Minister should consider making free postage available to old age pensioners.

The Senator may deal only with what is in the Bill.

My comment in relation to the Bill here is that it seems obvious the Minister is taking power to make facilities available at a later stage to other classes and not merely to blind persons.

That is so.

Question put and agreed to.
