Vol. 71 No. 15

Imposition of Duties (Confirmation of Orders) Bill, 1971: Committee and Final Stages.

Sections 1 and 2 agreed to.
SCHEDULE.
Question proposed: "That the Schedule be the Schedule to the Bill."

In reply to the question asked by Senator West, I should like to say that I have some limited information here and I think it is proper to refer to it on the Schedule. One of the reasons why this order had to be made to cover mobile homes was that "mobile home" as such was not covered by "caravans". The Senator asked if I had any idea of the production here and for a comparison with imports. Virtually all caravans, including mobile homes, which are imported are from Britain or the Six Counties. For instance, in 1969 and 1970 only one caravan was imported from sources other than United Kingdom sources. The imports of caravans, which cover mobile homes, in 1969 and 1970 were: 1969, 64; and 1970, 163. The corresponding values in those cases were: for the 64 caravans in 1969, £11,028 and for the 163 in 1970, £30,391. That information may possibly answer the question asked by the Senator.
