Vol. 95 No. 6

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1 to 8, in that order.

With regard to the various Bills could the Leader of the House give us some indication as to what Stages are proposed to be taken today?

We would hope to take all Stages unless there was some particular reason that we should not.

I would like to enter a caveat with regard to No. 5, the Casual Trading Bill, which proposes major changes in the law relating to that particular area. So far as this party are concerned we would be objecting to taking Committee Stage of that Bill today.

I would like to support the idea of having a separate Committee Stage on the Casual Trading Bill. It is a Bill that proposes considerable changes and it would be appropriate to have a separate Committee Stage on it. I would also like to ask the Leader of the House whether he is in a position to give any indication with regard to No. 12.—the Domicile Bill, 1980—which I tabled on behalf of the Labour Group some weeks ago, I am not pressing for the Second Stage of that Bill to be taken before Christmas but it has been circulated to Members of both Houses and it also has been available to the Minister and the officials of his Department. What I would like is to have an early debate on it in the next session. Perhaps the Leader of the House could say whether there is any indication of whether the Government are prepared to accept it and, secondly, if it will be possible to have an early debate on it in the New Year.

My other question relates to the subject matter of the rest of this week: are we going to sit for the Appropriation Bill debate and, if so, what are the sitting hours proposed?

Is it proposed to take No. 8—the motion on the Irish Goods Council—today at a definite time? Is it proposed to take it today? It seems an appropriate motion to take as soon as possible in view of the shopping involved in the next week or so.

With regard to No. 12, I will make inquiries and I will let Senator Robinson know the position. With regard to the Appropriation Bill, the intention is, hopefully, that we would finish the Bills on the Order Paper this evening and that we would have tomorrow and Friday to deal with the Appropriation Bill. Perhaps it will be necessary to vary that slightly, but that is the intention. Obviously the Appropriation Bill must be finished before we rise for Christmas.

What is the position with regard to motion No. 8?

If we have time today we will take it. It is possible we may take it and finish it tomorrow or the next day, if time permits.

Order of Business agreed to.
