Seanad Éireann debate -

Vol. 96 No. 15

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take items Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

What business have we for tomorrow? When will we get the Appropriation Bill from the other House? Every year we have a problem about the Appropriation Bill but it looks as if it will be worse this year. I and most Members felt the Appropriation Bill would have gone through the other House yesterday in order to give us an opportunity to discuss it this week. I have been told that the Bill will not be passed in Dáil Éireann until Thursday night which means that either we have to sit on Friday or sit next week, Christmas week, to discuss the Appropriation Bill. It is most unfair of the other House. They are treating us with disrespect as far as this Bill is concerned. I should like to voice my protest.

No criticism of the other House can be entertained.

On the question of the Appropriation Bill, it appears that it will not come to us before the time mentioned by Senator Ryan. We may have to make arrangements about the Appropriation Bill similar to other years. It is an extremely important debate which is always given a good airing in the House. I hope that the groups will be able to meet and arrange that the Appropriation Bill will get a proper debate.

May I take it that Nos. 4 and 5 are being taken together?

Order of Business agreed to.
