Vol. 98 No. 9

Trade Disputes (Amendment) Bill, 1982: Committee and Final Stages.

Question proposed: "That section 1 stand part of the Bill."

I would like formally to register some slight disappointment that this opportunity was not taken to alter the word "workmen", that the Minister was not able to find a less sexist term, but I presume "workmen" may also be construed as including workwomen — women often work a great deal harder than men — or workpersons. That just is a formal objection and we will not push the matter to a division.

The Senator can take it that the interpretation of the term "workmen" embraces workwomen.

Question put and agreed to.
Section 2 agreed to.
Title agreed to.
Bill reported without amendment, received for final consideration and passed.
