Seanad Éireann debate -
Tuesday, 10 May 1983

Vol. 100 No. 7

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Lanigan that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House to-day, he proposes to raise the following matter:

To ensure that the Mill Hill Fathers College at Freshford, County Kilkenny, remains open.

I rule that this matter is not admissible, as notice was not received by me before 3 p.m. yesterday. It is, however, open to the Senator to give notice for the next sitting day, as the matter is otherwise in order for the Adjournment.

The reason I would like to have this raised on the Adjournment is that we have had in Freshford, County Kilkenny, for many years a college which is now in danger of being closed.

This is completely out of order, Senator, and you know that.

I want to follow on——

There is no way in which you can follow on.

I would like to say——

I had the experience of ruling another Senator out of order on the same matter.

I agree with the ruling of the Chair. The Cathaoirleach has said that it can be put before the House on the next sitting day.

If we are sitting tomorrow——

I presume that the next available day will be tomorrow and, in deference to that fact, I bow to your superior judgment.
