Vol. 100 No. 11

Business of Seanad.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

As it is the normal time to conclude, and as the division bell is ringing in the other House and the Minister will have to leave, could I have some directive from the Leader of the House as to what is happening?

The position is that the House has not ordered the conclusion of business at 8.30 p. m. The Fine Gael Party and I are willing to continue if there is a unanimous view among the various groups in the House that we should.

We have to take the Fifth Stage of this Bill once the amendments are dealt with and then we have a Referendum Bill and that could lake some very considerable time.

I concur with the views of Senator O'Leary, but it is obvious from what Senator Robinson has said that it is unlikely that we are going to conclude at a reasonable time this evening. If we could have an indication that we might finish in ten minutes or an hour or two hours I would definitely concur with the view of the Leader of the House but it is obvious from what Senator Robinson has said——

In a matter like this the unanimous approval of the various groups in the House is required. That is my view on the matter.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

Perhaps the Minister would like to leave.

I move that the House adjourn until 10.30 a.m. tomorrow.

The Seanad adjourned at 8.30 p.m. until 10.30 a.m. on Thursday, 26 May 1983.
