Vol. 102 No. 7

Electoral (Amendment) Bill, 1983: Committee and Final Stages.

Section 1 agreed to.
SECTION 2.
Government amendment No. 1:
In page 2, lines 26 to 28, to delete subsection (2) and substitute the following subsections:
"(2) The collective citation ‘the Electoral Acts, 1923 to 1983' shall include this Act.
(3) The Electoral Acts, 1923 to 1983, shall be construed as one Act."

This is purely a technical amendment designed to alter the collective citation and construction contained in section 2 of the Bill in order to take account of the likelihood that the Electoral (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 1983, will become law before this Bill.

The Bill which was initiated by the Electoral (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, dealing with the revision of constituencies has already been passed and the Seanad has agreed to the suggestion that "(No. 2)" should be dropped from the Title.

The present Bill will, therefore, become the second Electoral Act to be passed in the present year and in accordance with normal practice this should be indicated in the Title in subsection (1).

Amendment agreed to.
