Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 23 Jan 1985

Vol. 107 No. 1

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Rory Kiely that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The steps being taken by the Government to protect Irish national interests in view of the fear and anxiety that has been expressed by fishermen and the fishing industry in general in relation to the accession of Spain and Portugal to the European Community.

It appears to me that it is too wide to be dealt with under the half-hour adjournment procedure. In the circumstances I must rule that the matter of which Senator Kiely has given notice is not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment.

I also have notice from Senator Patrick Kennedy that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The provision of natural gas in Limerick as a matter of exceptional urgency.

I regard this matter as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and it will be taken from 8 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., or earlier if the business ordered is concluded.
