Seanad Éireann debate -
Saturday, 24 May 1986

Vol. 112 No. 16

Order of Business.

I should like to thank the Members of the Seanad for assembling on Saturday which is normally not a sitting day in order to continue without interruption the discussion of the Tenth Amendment of the Constitution Bill. I suppose there are fewer than half a dozen Members of the Seanad who remember the last occasion on which the Seanad did meet on a Saturday. On that occasion the meeting spilled over into Sunday morning. I do not think the second part of the precedent need be followed; I hope it will not be followed on this occasion. It is proposed to order items Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4. Lest anyone is alarmed that that is a long list of business, No. 1 is purely a formal matter of reporting; No. 2 is the essential business of the day; No. 3 is the Electoral (Amendment) Bill, which is always necessary in order to allow the referendum to take place on the question that is being decided, and No. 4 is an early signature motion on that Bill.

Order of Business agreed to.
