Seanad Éireann debate -

Vol. 113 No. 11

Business of Seanad.

This morning the Cathaoirleach announced that the matter on the Adjournment would be taken at 7.30 p.m. In the course of the day there was discussion among the groups and it was agreed that it would be highly desirable that the item which we are on now, the Garda Síochána (Complaints) Bill, be completed to the end of Second Stage, thus enabling Senators to put down amendments for Committee Stage next week and save us from having that Committee Stage a week later in July.

Time seems to be very precious to the Houses of the Oireachtas at this time of year. Accordingly, there is agreement that we should, if necessary, sit somewhat later than originally agreed in order to do this. I see no great difficulty because, apart from Senator O'Leary, to my knowledge there are only three other speakers offering and each of them has indicated that their contribution will be brief. We have a speaker in possession, three speakers offering and a reply from the Minister. It may well be that we will be finished by 7.30 p.m. In case we are not, I ask for formal agreement to the amendment of this morning's order.

Agreed.
