Vol. 114 No. 3

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Cassidy that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to sanction the building of a new vocational education school in Castle-pollard.

I also received notice from Senator Fitzsimons of the following matter:

The need for the Minister of State with responsibility for the Arts to consider reversing the decision to introduce admission charges for the Treasury Gallery in the National Museum.

I also received notice from Senator Daly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to review the speed limits on roads.

I also received notice from Senator FitzGerald of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to review the decision to close the Royal City of Dublin Hospital, Baggot Street; the Adelaide Hospital and the Meath Hospital.

I also received notice from Senator B. Ryan of the following matter:

The widescale practice of requiring members of the travelling community to "sign on" at labour exchanges for social assistance at a fixed time.

I also received notice from Senator Connor of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to have investigated (i) the failure of his Department to inspect the house of an applicant — details supplied — in Castlerea, County Roscommon for the home improvement grant, application for which was received in his Department on 9 May 1986 and (ii) the delay by his Department in providing a final inspection for the new house grant of an applicant — details supplied — in Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon, the request for which was made in March of this year.

I regard the matter raised by Senators Cassidy, Fitzsimons, Daly, FitzGerald, Ryan and Connor as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Cassidy's matter for today's Adjournment and it will be taken at 8 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., or earlier if the business ordered is concluded. Senators Fitzsimons, Daly, FitzGerald, Ryan and Connor may give notice for another day of the matters they wish to raise.
