Seanad Éireann debate -
Thursday, 11 Dec 1986

Vol. 115 No. 7

Request under Standing Order 29.

May I interrupt you a moment Senator? I have had notice from Senator Michael D. Higgins regarding a motion which he wishes to move under Standing Order 29.

I would like to move a motion for the Adjournment of the Seanad on a specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent consideration, the matter being as follows:

That in view of the immediate threat to items of archaeological value posed by the decision of the High Court in relation to the Derrynaflan finds, the Seanad be informed of the Government's intention in relation to urgent legislative action, the existing legal implications and the Government's plans for the protection of such objects as are already lodged in the National Museum and other locations managed by the State.

I have decided that the motion is one covered by the Standing Order. I ask Senators who support the motion to rise in their places.

More than five Senators rose.

The debate on the motion will take place at 4 p.m. or at the conclusion of the business ordered, whichever is the earlier.
