Vol. 118 No. 1

Death of Former Members. - Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Michael Ferris that, on the Motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

In view of the killing in recent days of a number of Palestinian people on the West Bank and Gaza, the need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to make a statement regarding Government policy on the matter.

I also received notice from Senator Patrick Kennedy of the following matter:

The abolition of An Foras Forbartha.

I also received notice from Senator Paul Bradford of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to ensure the continuation and development of Mallow General Hospital's acute facilities and to insist that the necessary level of funding is provided to it.

I also received notice from Senator Katharine Bulbulia of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to indicate his attitude towards the granting of statutory registration for physiotherapists in view of the fact that assurances have been given by successive Ministers that such registration would be forthcoming.

I also received notice from Senator Brian O'Shea of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to rescind his decision to abolish the local health advisory committees.

I also received notice from Senator Joe Doyle of the following matter:

The urgent need for the Minister for the Environment to make financial assistance available to facilitate the introduction of smoke free zones under the Air Pollution Act in view of the very serious deterioration of air quality in Dublin city.

I also received notice from Senator John Connor of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Energy to provide or seek sufficient funding to ensure the continued development programme under the Bog Development Act of 1981.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Ferris, Kennedy, Bradford, O'Shea, Doyle and Connor as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Ferris' motion and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Kennedy, Bradford, O'Shea, Doyle and Connor may give notice for another day of the matters they wish to raise.

I regret I have to rule that the matter raised by Senator Bulbulia is not suitable for discussion on the ground that it involves legislation.

Therefore we will take the matter raised by Senator Ferris at the conclusion of business tonight at whatever time that may be. The Leader of the House, Senator Lanigan, on the Order of Business.
