Vol. 118 No. 1

Death of Former Members. - Housing (Homeless Persons) Bill, 1987: First Stage.

I move:

"That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to make provision as to the functions of housing authorities with respect to persons who are homeless or threatened with homelessness and for connected purposes."

Question put and agreed to.

Date for next stage?

In view of recent developments, in particular the Government's failure to meet their commitments in this area, I propose that this Bill be taken as the first item on Friday, 18 December.

Is that agreed? Agreed.

Second Stage ordered for Friday, 18 December 1987.

I would like to remind Senators that the House is not bound to take the Bill on the date fixed. All it means is that the Bill cannot be taken before that date. When the Bill is to be taken it is a matter for the Order of Business of another day.
