Seanad Éireann debate -
Thursday, 23 Jun 1988

Vol. 120 No. 8

Business of Seanad.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

I ask the Acting Leader of the House when it is proposed to sit again?

At 12 o'clock on Tuesday next, 28 June 1988.

Could I draw attention to the intolerable working conditions in the House at the moment? The heat is welcome outside and probably we cannot control it inside, but the persistent noise during the session is very wearing on people who are trying to follow the detail of Committee Stage debates. I wonder if steps could be taken to reduce the noise level during next week's sitting.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

I concur with Senator Manning in that. It is very difficult to hear the debates. All morning there was a very pleasant sunlight at the back of the Chair which was hitting 90 degrees. I do not think it would be possible to sit here for four days next week without some improvement; it is physically impossible.

You might consider the possibility of male Members divesting themselves of their jackets during the course of next week's session.

Shame. Never.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

It is proposed that the Seanad will adjourn until 12 noon on Tuesday, 28 June 1988.
