Vol. 122 No. 2

Order of Business.

We will take items Nos. 1, 2 and 3 today, and will take all Stages of item No. 2.

Two weeks ago I asked the Leader of the House if he could convey any information to the House about the setting up of the Anglo-Irish parliamentary tier and he undertook to do so. I read in today's papers that it is about to be established next week. I think it would be better if Members of the House were told directly of developments which affect them rather than having to learn of it through the columns of The Irish Times, however estimable The Irish Times. Perhaps the Leader of the House might be able to confirm the reports in today's newspaper on this development?

Since I am involved in the Adjournment matter, could we have some indication as to the probable time of the Adjournment this evening?

I cannot give a time for the Adjournment because we are taking the Committee Stage of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Bill. It is important that we deal with that matter as is necessary and also that we take all Stages of the Garda Síochána Bill. It is impossible to give an exact time for the matter on the Adjournment.

On the matter raised by Senator Manning, may I say I have not read The Irish Times yet so I cannot say if what is in it is true or false, but I will have a chat with him later on when I confirm what is in the paper. I will also talk to the Minister.

Order of Business agreed to.
