I have notice from Senator Seán Byrne that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture and Food to come to the assistance of Cahir Bakery which is threatened with closure with the loss of 25 jobs.

I also received notice from Senator Gerry Reynolds of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs in view of the joint statement following a meeting of the Anglo-Irish Conference to state what steps are being taken to proceed with the restoration of the Ballyconnell-Ballinamore Canal.

I also received notice from Senator John Connor of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Tourism and Transport to confirm that no obstacles will be placed in the way of the proposed flights originating in New York, via Reykjavik, and landing at Connaught Regional Airport, Charlestown, County Mayo.

I also received notice from Senator Philip Hogan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to intervene immediately with the Revenue Commissioners so that the ban on the postal stamping services can be lifted forthwith.

I also received notice form Senator Brendan Ryan of the following matter:

The delay by the Minister for Social Welfare in completing the review of the system of operation of social welfare appeals.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Byrne, Reynolds, Connor, Hogan and Ryan as suitable for discussion. I have selected the matter raised by Senator Byrne and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Reynolds, Connor, Hogan and Ryan may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
