Wednesday, 7 Feb 1990

Vol. 123 No. 15

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Larry McMahon that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The urgent need for the Minister for Education to clarify the position regarding the acquisition of a site for the proposed construction of Jobstown community College in west Tallaght.

Tá fógra agam ón Seanadóir Pól Ó Foighil:

An gá atá ann go méadóidh an tAire Comhshaoil an t-olldeontas bóithre do Ghaillimh ag féachaint do dhrochstaid na mbóithre i gConamara.

I also received notice from Senator Avril Doyle of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to immediately outline the future employment prospects for all our customs officers in the light of the free trade position in the EC from 1 January 1993, and in regard to his recent announcement concerning the introduction of automatic entry processing and direct trades input on 1 January 1993.

I also received notice from Senator Joe Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to increase funding to enable Dublin Corporation to continue its programme of upgrading its housing stock.

I also received notice from Senator David Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health in the light of the recent resignation of the Chairman of the Health Research Board, due to unexpected arbitrary budgetary constraints imposed in the Estimates to look urgently at the possibility of providing future and adequate funding so that this important body can carry out its work in the national interest.

I also received notice from Senator Pat Upton of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to alleviate the serious overcrowding in Scoil Iosagáin, Aughavanagh Road, Dublin.

I also received notice from Senator Shane Ross of the following matter:

The unacceptable delay in the processing of investigations by the Garda Complaints Board and the need for the Minister to allocate additional staff immediately thereto.

I also received notice from Senator Liam Cosgrave of the following matter:

The delay in publishing the report on pay and conditions in the Defence Forces with the continuing hardship for members and their dependants.

I regard the matters raised by Senators McMahon, Ó Foighil, Doyle, Costello, Norris, Upton, Ross and Cosgrave as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matter raised by Senator McMahon and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Norris, Ó Foighil, Doyle, Costello, Upton, Ross and Cosgrave may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
