Vol. 126 No. 4

Broadcasting Bill, 1990: Committee Stage (Resumed) and Final Stages.

This is disgraceful and unnecessary.

The question is——

On a point of order, as we have now gone beyond 11.45 p.m. the time business was due to end today, is it legal to continue the proceedings?

The resolution states "the question shall be put as soon as possible thereafter".

Would you read to us the relevant part of the resolution?

It states: "provided that if a division or claim therefore is in progress at the time indicated the question shall be put as soon as possible thereafter". That was the position and the question is now being put "as soon as possible thereafter". The question is: "That Committee Stage is hereby completed, the Bill is reported to the House without amendment, Report Stage is hereby completed and the Bill is hereby passed."

Question put.
