Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 20 May 1992

Vol. 132 No. 12

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Upton that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to clarify the position in relation to the proposal to locate a clinical waste disposal incinerator at St. James's Hospital, Dublin.

I also received notice from Senator E. Ryan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to make a statement on the grave and unacceptable situation in Thailand.

I also received notice from Senator Hussey of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to indicate the up to date position regarding the Williamstown sewerage scheme, County Galway.

I also received notice from Senator O'Toole of the following matter:

The proposal by the Department of Health to situate a central incinerator for the disposal of clinical waste from all Dublin hospitals in St. James's Hospital, despite the objection of local residents.

I also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide adequate funding for the Adelaide Hospital; and to ensure that the ethos of the Adelaide Hospital is maintained in the proposed new hospital at Tallaght.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Upton, E. Ryan, Hussey, O'Toole and Ross as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Upton's and Senator Ryan's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business.

As Senators will have noticed, the motions from Senators Upton and O'Toole are almost identical. I understand Senator Upton is willing to share his time with Senator O'Toole, I am sure that will be acceptable to Senator O'Toole. Senators Hussey and Ross may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
